ABOUT

Akshata, an initiative founded in 2022 by three passionate young changemakers—Keerthana, Sukruthi, and Adhya—aims to make a positive and sustainable impact on menstrual health in rural Bangalore. By addressing period poverty and empowering adolescent girls to adopt healthy hygiene practices, Akshata is working to create lasting change.

We recognize the challenges surrounding affordability and sustainability in menstrual care. Through distribution drives and awareness campaigns, we promote a cycle of education and action that can empower communities for generations to come.

Menstrual health remains one of the most under-prioritized public health issues, often misclassified as just a "women’s issue" rather than a societal and national concern. At Akshata, we strive to change that narrative.

Our main goal is to educate adolescents about using sustainable cloth pads and discourage the use of harmful plastic pads. We also spread awareness about cervical cancer and work to reduce menstrual hygiene ignorance through sessions with boys in schools—because true change includes everyone.

We emphasize that everyone is born from the same menstrual blood, encouraging respect, connection, and reverence for the natural world.

HERE'S WHAT WE DO

Founded in 2022, the Akshata Foundation began with a mission to break menstrual taboos and promote sustainable choices. We aim to educate young teens on the benefits of cloth menstrual pads—which are eco-friendly, reusable, and gentler on the body—while discouraging harmful plastic alternatives. Cloth pads reduce environmental waste and empower girls to manage their health with confidence.

At Akshata, we believe menstrual health should be safe, stigma-free, and sustainable. Our work goes beyond products—it's about changing mindsets, raising awareness, and building a future where menstruation is embraced as a path to dignity and equality.

OUR GOALS

Distribute more ecofriendly pads
Increase donations to impact a larger rural community
Reduce stigma around menstrual hygiene
